趣 the premise

A calm way to share a car with the people you trust — track every mile, settle every cost, and keep the peace between family and friends.

The idea

Sharing well is a practice,
not a transaction

Keyodo isn't a payment app and it never holds your money. It's a quiet record-keeper for lending a car between family and friends — 道, the Way: something you tend, not a bill you chase. The name carries the whole intention, read three ways:

用
Function · yō
key + odo

The keys you hand over and the odometer you read — the two moving parts, folded into the name.

音
Sound · on
like Kyoto

Unhurried, considered, trustworthy — the right register for money moving gently between friends.

道
Spirit · dō
the Way

The suffix of jūdō, shodō, kendō — a discipline you keep. Keyodo is the way of sharing well.

The core loop

The practice, in four movements

The everyday rhythm. Everything below is detail hung on this simple frame.

01一

Register the true cost

Enter what the car actually costs to own. Keyodo turns it into a single honest per-mile rate — or a simple flat rate, your choice.

insurance · loan · service · fuel → one rate

02二

Share with those you trust

Open the car to a group of family or friends. They ask for the keys on a schedule; you approve with a tap.

groups · borrow requests · approvals

03三

Drive — and let it read the miles

Snap the odometer at start and end; Keyodo reads the number for you and works out the distance and fair cost. Gas receipts scan the same quiet way.

photo capture · auto-read · fuel receipts

04四

Settle in harmony

A living ledger shows who owes whom. Keyodo never touches the money — it keeps the record honest and, when a balance is paid, stamps it settled.

running balances · mark-as-settled

The fleet, broadly

Not only cars

If it rolls, hauls, or floats — and something counts its use — Keyodo can share it. Anything with an odometer or an hourmeter fits the same simple loop.

Cars
RVs
Campers
Buses
Boatshr
& anything measured
miThe odometer

Cars, RVs, campers, buses — usage is the miles driven, read from the odometer at start and end.

hrThe hourmeter

Boats, generators, tractors — usage is engine hours, read from the hourmeter. Same math: usage in, fair share out.

Feature · the rate

Priced your way — flat or true-cost

Every vehicle is set up as one of two rate types when you add it — priced per mile, or per engine hour for hourmeter assets. Simple by default; precise when you want it.

定Flat

A single number, no fuss

Pick any amount on one of three bases — the app becomes a clean scheduler and ledger.

◦Per mile — miles × your rate, odometer captured as usual.
◦Per day — a daily rate for the length of the borrow. No odometer, no fuel.
◦Per trip — one price per borrow. Pure scheduling + balance.
変Variable · true cost

The real per-mile cost of ownership

Build the rate from what the car truly costs. Keyodo blends three buckets into one honest $/mile.

◦Time costs — insurance, loan, registration, spread over your yearly miles.
◦Service costs — oil, tires, brakes, per their mileage intervals.
◦Fuel — real receipt prices ÷ the car's MPG, latest or rolling average.
◦MPG prefilled from the EPA rating for the year/make/model. soon

The rate locks when a trip starts, so a mid-trip change never re-prices a drive already underway.

Feature · capture

Recorded without friction

The borrower's part takes seconds, standing at the car — and works even with no signal.

写Odometer & receipts

Point the camera; it does the reading

Photos are the record — an auditable trail, not a guess. Reading them is automatic.

◦Start & end odometer — snap a photo, the reading auto-fills, you confirm or edit. premium read
◦Gas receipts — the total, gallons and price are read off the receipt automatically.
◦No receipt printed? Photograph the pump display instead — Keyodo works out the price and flags it for the owner to glance at.
◦On a free owner's car, you simply type the numbers in — the photo is still kept.
油Fuel, made fair

However you buy gas, it balances out

The owner decides how fuel is treated — per car, or per borrower.

◦Owner's card — fuel's on the owner; the borrower pays for it through the per-mile rate.
◦Driver paid — the borrower's receipt is credited back, so leaving a full tank swings the balance their way.
◦A gentle game — a cheaper fill drops the rate with a little cheer; a pricey one nudges you toward a better station next time.
◦Road-trip ready — multi-fill, multi-day borrows price each leg at the fuel cost that was true for it.
圏Off the grid

Works in the parking garage

The field moments happen in dead zones. Keyodo captures offline and finalizes when signal returns.

◦Capture anywhere — photos, readings and fuel entries queue on the device and sync in order later.
◦Honest about it — an offline trip shows "pending — connect to finalize your cost" rather than a made-up number.

Feature · trust

Trust, quietly kept

Enough structure to keep things fair between friends — never so much it feels like surveillance.

許Requests & approvals

A clear yes, a graceful no

Every borrow starts with a request the owner can see and decide on.

◦Approve, deny, or change your mind — revoke an approval before the trip starts; the borrower can cancel too.
◦Overlaps warn, never block — two people can coordinate a shared block on purpose.
◦Booking calendar — see who has the car, when. soon
◦Recurring & auto-approve — standing slots for regulars, approved by your rules. premium soon
位Location · with consent

A location stamp, not a leash

Mileage always comes from the odometer photo — never GPS. Location is an optional trust artifact, off by default.

◦One-shot, at submit only — a single pin when a reading is entered; no live tracking, ever. premium
◦Owner opt-in, per borrower — and the borrower is told, in the moment, when a location is attached.
◦Fades on its own — location pins are erased after 90 days.
◦Gentle flags — "returned somewhere else" or "the miles don't quite add up" surface to the owner as soft notes. premium
信People & limits

Know who's driving

◦Borrower credentials — a driver attests license & insurance; owners see status and expiry alerts at approval.
◦Credit limit — cap how much a borrower can owe before new trips pause. premium soon
◦Private by pair — no borrower ever sees another borrower's balance.
◦Photos stay private — only the driver and the owner can ever open a trip's images.

Feature · settle & the small things

The ledger, and the little kindnesses

帳Ledger & settlement

Always current, never pushy

◦Live balances — netted between each pair of people; trips debit, driver-paid fuel credits.
◦Mark it settled — the owner records a real-world payment or forgives part of a balance.
◦No money held in-app — Keyodo is a tracker, not a payment agreement.
◦Pay in-app — settle a balance from a linked card or bank. later
和Everyday niceties

The touches that keep it calm

◦QR invites — add a friend by scanning a code, in person. soon
◦Notifications, tuned — five gentle categories, a master mute, and quiet hours with a wink.
◦A trusted co-pilot — hand one person full admin of your cars. premium soon
◦Pause, don't lose — freeze an account and keep your data for a year. premium soon
◦Year in review — miles lent, top borrower, busiest month. idea
◦Web portal — manage everything on a big screen too. soon

Illustrative mockups for this concept — not indicative of the final design.
Features, tiers and limits are proposed and subject to change.

On the design

A system, not a costume

Keyodo borrows the restraint of Japanese design — ma, the value of empty space; a single vermilion accent held in reserve; the ensō, the circle drawn in one breath, standing in for a wheel and an odometer's face. These are taken as inspiration, held lightly and with respect — a way of building calm, honest software, not a theme laid over it. The aim is simply this: to make sharing something you own feel generous again.
